The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is the nation’s health reform law passed in 2010. The ACA will reform the private and public health insurance systems, and expand coverage to 30 million Americans by 2022. It will lower costs and increase benefits for consumers, and improve quality and innovation in our health care system. It also promotes good health by funding public health and prevention initiatives.
California is taking steps to implement the ACA by creating Covered California, California’s health insurance exchange, expanding Medi-Cal to increase coverage to 1.5 million Californians, reforming the state’s insurance regulations, and creating new programs to help Californians get into coverage such as the Enrollment Assistance Program.
