Calling All Superheroes!

Are you or someone you know helping your family, friends or community get enrolled in health coverage in California? If so, you are a superhero! Since you may not look the part, we’ve come up with a new name for you – a Hidden Hero. As a Hidden Hero you are making the world a better place, one kid or family at a time. Throughout July, we’ll be featuring and thanking the moms, dads, neighbors, enrollment counselors, policymakers, family members, friends and others that are helping California kids stay strong and healthy.

We hope to recognize these Hidden Heroes’ and encourage others to be a Hidden Hero for their family by promoting their admirable achievements via a contest on social media. Hidden Heroes are what make California a great place to live. Their work to encourage enrollment is something Californians need because:

There are just over 1 million uninsured children in California’s, the second largest number in the USA.
Over three-quarters of uninsured children in California are eligible for Medi-Cal, but are not enrolled.
While Latinos constitute just over half of all children in California, they represent two-thirds of uninsured children.
We’re also recognizing policymakers who are making it easier for families to get the coverage they need by supporting health insurance options like Medi-Cal and Covered California plans. Through their leadership, more than 100,000 kids in California gained coverage between 2010 and 2012 alone!

To share your Hidden Hero story, send us a tweet or comment on our Facebook post using the hashtag #MyHiddenHero. Include a sentence and photo if you have one about the Hidden Hero who helped you, your family or others get covered. We’ll select the top three stories and let our social media friends pick the winner. The winner will receive family tickets and snack vouchers to a local sports game – baseball, soccer, the choice will be yours! Share today!
